So when Yash Raj Films fashion label Diva’ni launches its Spring Summer 2014 line it is not surprising it has Bollywood as its inspiration. The first time this line was presented there was a marked difference given as they were showcased through a fashion show. The leading ladies of Bollywood like Katrina Kaif, Rani Mukerji, Madhuri Dixit and Anushka Sharma presented the ensembles.

This season there style is all about fusion with many a surprise twists to traditional Indian look. The heavy velvet based lehengas from the last collection, made way for chiffon gowns with dragonfly designs.

More avant-garde fashion trends like Kedia blouse and Brocade shorts combinations replaced the saris made of lace.

The main colour of the collection was sheer white, used across many of their main pieces.

However the centerpiece of the entire collection was the Kalidaar. The Kalidaar was presented as the main feature piece of the collection in many different versions feautring, chevron prints and fabrics like Chanderi silk. Stylist Ayesha Dasgupta picks this Chanderi Kalidaar below as the “most commercial ensemble”.

Our favorite piece of the collection was this printed Kalidaar worn with embroidered slacks. In this Diva’ni has used to the growing trend of fusing modern prints with traditional ensembles.

Though we are not so sure why such a forward looking collection had some not so fashion forward pieces. For e.g. this wispy saree which is reminiscent of Madhuri Dixits sexy numbers does not do justice to any of the really chic designs in the collection otherwise.

Many of the designs are very commercial and will go down well with the fans. Here are some pictures sourced from Vogue India of the collection. Let us know if you like the “shoot within a shoot” look of the campaign.
